Here we are, two old ladies. She’s still got it.
Here we are, two old ladies. She’s still got it. The car that is. When I’ve been to the garden centre, she gets almost as much attention as when had Hoopy (a very beautiful Weimeraner dog) on the passenger seat. This car is now 25 years old and I’ve had her since 1999. Inspired by my friend John Scott’s purchase of a mark 2 mx5, I bought a two year old mk1 as I liked the pop up lights. She’s my favourite antidepressant by a country mile.

And it’s off to the Bookouture Summer party I go! Not a soul on the train thank goodness, a mask would play havoc with my lipstick. I seem to have managed soft focus too, because the train is moving. This is the first publishing party I’ve been to since before the pandemic and I’m giddy with excitement at the prospect of meeting the people I’ve been working so closely with to get my books on anxiety and the menopause out and into the world. In real life, not on Zoom! Luckily they’ve been a dream team, so all we need do is celebrate. Note to self: pace yourself, Rayner. @threadbooks @bookouture @sherbetfountain #bookpublishing #anxietyrelief #anxietyawareness #menopauserelief #midlifewomen

Making Friends with the Menopause is a book, a sup
Making Friends with the Menopause is a book, a support group and, for me, a way of looking at life. It's easy to get so caught up in the cult of youth, we can forget there is beauty in age. As older women, we are like old houses: and I'll take a drafty Georgian window over a hermitically sealed one any day, an old staircase worn by the footsteps of others who trod centuries earlier, a frontage covered in wisteria it has taken years to grow.

The fully revised Making Friends with the Menopause is a very different book than the one Dr Patrick Fitzgerald and I first published in 2015. Back then, menopause was not even recognised by NICE, the National Institute for Clinical Excellence. Doctors were left floundering, unsure how to treat women at this time of change, just as we floundered ourselves, hormones fluctuating, mental health in peril. The team @Thread, our new publisher, and Dr Patrick and I have spent months honing and editing this new edition. The clinical advice is bang up to date and the design is easier to read in both print and ebook, especially by middle-aged eyes. We’ve more quotes reflecting your experiences, dear women, of your experiences at this time.

To celebrate the wisdom and wit of the menopausal woman, we've arranged a series of promotions. We're giving away paperbacks and reducing the price of the ebook on Amazon worldwide. To have a look inside, visit https://buff.ly/3QNteAT and the new edition is in audio too. So cheers, my friends, Patrick, the Thread team and I are sending warm withes to you all, and we hope you find this new-yet-old book helpful.

I had to whoop when I saw the bike our latest Airb&b guest has rocked up on. It’s a classic Triumph Bonneville, now chained up nearby. It’s the very bike the ‘bad boyfriend’ rides in the novel that’s just gone out to publishers. I’m not into motorbikes particularly, but I’ve ridden pillion a few times and it’s a hell of an adrenaline rush. #motorbike #writersofinstagram #authorsofinstagram @bookouture @laura_wilkinsonwriter

Latest creative endeavour at Howard Terrace. Wallpapering shutters in the ‘master’ bedroom. The design seemed part seascape, part jungle but it sort of works, I hope, especially with our arched window, which will forever make me think of Play School.
