Two birthday celebrations - my mum turned 88 a week before me and I’m now 59. That’s a lot of years when added together so we didn’t quite manage 147 candles, but we did have two cakes. Rude not to! 🥰🎂🥂

Phew! Busy day of lugging furniture, sending work

Phew! Busy day of lugging furniture, sending work emails and WhatsApp messages, but the cat says it’s been worth it and deigned to coordinate with the throw. #poser. 🙄🐅🐯. We swapped a bed for a chair, and a chair for a bed, added a heater, posed for pictures et voila! One summer writing shed becomes a cosy winter workroom. Making more space for my mum’s care team to work and me to write, as and when needed. Just need to sort the wifi and everything will be up and running. I love doing this sort of thing, but boy was it physically knackering - I couldn’t be a removal man, that’s for certain. There’s your desk, @jane_lythell_writer and a fold out bed. I could almost Airb&b it as a Tiny House, except it lacks a loo. Brave back-to-earth types could use the compost heap, I suppose…. @julesmiller_27 what did you do to create a wee zone in yours? Niece Kate ‘n me, whole Bicat clan and action pic of feasting. Thank you everyone in the Bicat family for a lovely Danish Christmas Eve. To be part of a family celebration was so restorative after an often-painful year, and I type this conscious others had it worse. Apparently we may be heading back to tier 2 restrictions to be announced Monday (rule of six and only socialising outdoors) so I’m seizing these precious days. May your Christmas be as merry as possible wherever you are.

My mum, Mary, and her FANTASTIC care team Fiona, Rachel and Rachael, without whom I’m not at all sure she would have got through Covid recently. But she did, and we had a delightful evening eating mince pies and drinking mulled wine, singing along to carols (badly) and exchanging gifts. Given the year we’ve had, capped with a scary month of Covid, it was a special evening for us all. ❤️❤️❤️
