Love it! For Mental Health Awareness Week we’ve
Love it! For Mental Health Awareness Week we’ve reduced the price of John Scott’s fabulous book to 99p, because John and I are both agreed sewing, knitting, patchwork, crocheting and all those needles-and-thread related activities are soothing and great for calming the anxious mind.

It’s to do with focusing on something outside ourselves and because we end up with something I reckon, even if it’s a darned sock or jumper for your grandson’s teddy.

And now I his book is number 1 in Hobbies and Crafts! That’s got to be a fairly sizeable collection of books to be at the tippy top of - and as mood boosters go, I heartily recommend it. Threads of Life is packed with tips on all things needle and thread related, and a good deal else besides, because John is such a great storyteller, and he’s lived a rich and varied life as fashion guru and stylist to the stars. Download it here https://amzn.eu/d/3BQkBFX and enjoy! #moodbooster #sewingproject #needlework #hobbies #embroidery #knitting #tailoring #madetomeasure #mindfulness #mindfulactivities

Let’s face it, my mum was cool. Yesterday I went
Let’s face it, my mum was cool. Yesterday I went through her wardrobe with her carer, Rachael. Beautiful silk scarf after beautiful silk scarf, cashmere jumpers with the odd moth hole, suits from the ‘80s that still hold their own in terms of cut and fabric now. We’re supposed to be sorting her clothes into bin bags to give to charity, sell on eBay, or giveaway to friends and family. But the truth is, I keep trying things on, and thinking, sorry folks, *I* want this. Mum and I often shopped for clothes together, our figures were similar and what suited her often suited me. These glasses are case in point. ‘Very Thelma,’ says Tom, when I turn and pose. I’m a tad insulted. ‘I think they’re cool,’ I say indignantly. Takes a couple of minutes for us to work out that he’s talking about Thelma and Louise, and I think he’s meaning Scooby Doo.

I’m sad to let friends and fans know our beloved
I’m sad to let friends and fans know our beloved Thor died of cancer on Monday. He was nearly 15 and Tom, Seb and I are very sad. I got him as a kitten for Seb when his dad moved into what was then my home, and he was the glue for us a trio. He was endlessly entertaining, spectacularly stupid at times, but very tolerant of us, guests - including children and Airbnb guests - and until he was ill, ate for England. (His fighting weight was à spectacular 6.5kg). The only thing he actively hated was Henry the hoover. A recent Irish Airbnb summed him up perfectly. ‘Thor,’ he said in a lovely southern Irish burr. ‘That’s a magnificent name for a magnificent cat.’

Nephew Conrad listening to Last Word on R4 with me
Nephew Conrad listening to Last Word on R4 with me today. He had Mrs Pig on his lap and we had Radio 4 on his laptop. I was interviewed and it aired at 4pm and can easily be found on BBC Sounds. I was talking about my mother, Mary Rayner, author and illustrator. Sometimes it’s these little moments of intimacy that are the most special. His Grandma had previously noticed he’s rather handsome. ‘Who’s he?’ she had said, when Zooming recently. ‘That’s your grandson, Mum,’ I said, and I could tell she thought he rocked it. All four of her grandchildren are beautiful spirits. And I’m a *bit* more objective as as I’m an aunt not a parent. The pandemic means I’ve not seen them much so it’s been a real treat. Happy Easter everyone. 🐰🐣 This has been a Good Friday. My mother’s legacy definitely lingers. #tigerlover #pigstagram #obituary #mumanddaughter

Listening to Radio 4 with my nephew Conrad. I’m
Listening to Radio 4 with my nephew Conrad. I’m on talking about Mum at 4pm: Last Word. Feeling apprehensive… will I come across ok? They will have edited me down… but it’s lovely being with Conrad at Mum’s flat. I’m sewing, too, a skill Mum taught me.
