Aw, here’s Freya, our wee cat, investigating my latest purchase - 50% off vegan chocolate. So ‘cat is foxed by cow choc’ - there’s a potential Argus headline there. In Veganuary too. Tom and I knew she was our girl the moment we met her. And all in January too, how very clever she is. She can talk too. She’s taught Thor our darling dingbat cat, to miaow too. Only taken him 14 years!

Lovely *coughs* landmark birthday. I had a great time with the most beautiful surprise cake, a gathering of friends and family - there must be several centuries of knowing these dear people all added up there - and a pampering day yesterday and today.

It seems a tad odd
Not to say this year has been a sod
With ball-busting inflation
Trains that don’t leave the station
Nurses blamed for not caring
By those whose wealth sharing
Stops far from the door of the poor.
One PM booted out for lying
A second decried as misapplying Fiscal logic or anything close
Yet they voted her in
They must be so dim
And still they’re in charge of us all.
Now we’ve Rishi to thank
For this huge pile of wank
While the world beats its head on the wall
Millions worry about Putin
Whilst others fear gluten
This Covid seems here to last,
And a planet warming scarily fast
To tuck into turkey
Seems slightly biserky
Or makes little sense to me.
But what hope do we have
With a system gone mad
I really am damned if I know.
This rhyme could scan better,
If I tried harder, worked to the letter
But the year from hell
Doesn’t warrant it well
So I’ll end this ditty here….
TWENTY TWENTY TWO
You were a year of sheer poo
In ‘23 let’s flush it away
And start afresh on New Year’s Day. .

Christmas drinks with this trio marks ten years of
Christmas drinks with this trio marks ten years of being next-door neighbours - Becky, Dan and Sam - and six years with Angela up the road. We’ve been through a lot together, and I ❤️these people. Becky came with me to the hospital the night of Tom’s accident in February when I was in a tizz. She was as she always is - practical and wise and kind. A few years ago I ran to Angela’s side in my nightie when she said she was having chest pains and it turned out to be a heart attack. ‘I haven’t got only knickers on!’ I whispered to her as the paramedic checked her out, then whisked her off to hospital leaving me to catch up with events. The pandemic made neighbourliness matter more, and we’re lucky. Ours are worth their weight in gold. 🐈‍⬛🥰🍷🍻📚

12th December and BRRR! Up for an Early Bird Swim. There was even a robin in the snow watching me! But the pool is heated so once I was in, it was beautiful. #magical #coldweather #swimming #outdoorliving #frostymorning #igersbrighton

Day 5 and OMG it’s only 20 days till Christmas!
Day 5 and OMG it’s only 20 days till Christmas! And that’s a traditional Christmas here in England. Across much of Europe the big day of traditional celebration is Christmas Eve. We are spending Christmas with Tom’s family and whilst they might have lived in Yorkshire for 50 years, the Bicats celebrate on Christmas Eve, because Tom’s mum, Inger, is Danish. There are lots of lovely elements to a Danish Christmas and so the rest of the family have continued to celebrate this way, and I have a Danish great grandmother so many of our family preferences meld. To imagine that Christmas Eve table laden with food, the steaming red cabbage, the caramel potatoes, with our specially made special vegan Christmas pie… (Tom’s speciality, they’ll all eat duck AND his pie, if past years are anything to go by) … we so need the sustenance of a big meal at this time of year, don’t we? Our bedroom curtains are barely worth opening before it’s dark again. If you’re feeling SAD, you’re not alone, a lot of people get down at this time, and this year it’s tougher than most. Look after yourselves, dear friends, and remember the darkest hour comes before dawn. #wintersolstice #windows #adventcalendar #roominspiration #bedroomdecor #danishstyle #wallpaper #brightonwriters #authorsofinstagram #writingyourgrief
